WHAT IS SHIKAKAI?
The name comes from Tamil: "Shika" (hair) + "Kai" (fruit) literally "fruit for hair."
Its pods contain natural saponins, soap molecules that clean without stripping your scalp's protective oils.
Archaeological evidence shows shikakai was used for hair care as early as 2500 BC.
Unlike synthetic surfactants (SLS, SLES, SCI), shikakai's saponins are non-ionic. They lift dirt and excess oil while leaving beneficial oils intact.
This means no "strip and overcompensate" cycle — and no transition period.
WHAT DOES IT SMELL LIKE?
Great question! Our bar smells like an herbal garden, a blend of fresh rosemary, calming lavender, and a light citrusy bergamot on top.
Underneath that, there's a warm, earthy base from the natural oils and ayurvedic herbs like hibiscus and neem. It's subtle and clean, not perfumey or overpowering like a lot of shampoo bars.
Think: a warm cup of herbal tea, but for your hair. And since every ingredient is food-grade, there are zero synthetic fragrances, what you smell is the actual plants.

Wet hair thoroughly.
Rub the bar directly on your scalp, or lather between your hands first.
Massage into scalp and hair. Rinse thoroughly.
No conditioner needed for most hair types.
If you have very long or dry ends, use a small amount of conditioner on ends only.
Pro tip: Let your scalp adjust for 2-3 washes. Some people notice a difference immediately; others need a few washes for their scalp to stop overproducing oil.

No. Transition periods happen when your scalp needs to recalibrate after years of being stripped by synthetic surfactants. Shikakai doesn't strip, so there's nothing to recalibrate. Most people notice a difference on the first wash.
How is this different from other natural shampoo bars?
Our bar is made with 11 raw ingredients and hasn't gone trough any harsh chemical processes that ruin the product.
Most "natural" shampoo bars still contain synthetic surfactants like SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate) or SLS. They're gentler than drugstore shampoo, but they're still detergents. Our bar contains zero synthetic surfactants. The cleaning comes entirely from shikakai's natural saponins.
Will this work with hard water?
Yes. Hot saponification creates true soap that rinses clean in any water type. Synthetic detergent bars (even "natural" ones) often leave waxy buildup in hard water, shikakai doesn't.
Does it dye my hair?
No. Shikakai does not contain any dye or bleaching agents. It cleans your hair without altering its color.
